Alpine Meadows & Bad Ischl Although Alpine Meadows is located in the countryside overlooking fields, forests and mountains it is only a five minute drive from the centre of Bad Ischl with its good range of shops, stylish bars & restaurants and 'Eurotherme' the excellent thermal spa where you can relax after a hard day walking, cycling, ski ing or snow boarding in the mountains or just spend a day pampering yourself. Alpine Meadows & Sport Alpine Meadows is on a scenic running route which takes you in and around Bad Ischl PLUS the mountian biking courses of the Salzkammergut Trophy are just a few minutes away. In the winter, just a short drive away, there are over 145 kms of piste which are suitable for ALL ages and abilities of skiers and snowboarders while the langlauf (cross country ski) tracks are a little closer. However if you just want to have fun in the snow there is the Postalm Arena with its wide range of activities including snow tubing and snow biking. For water sports enthusiasts the crystal clear lakes of the Salzkammergut are ideal for swimming, scuba diving, water ski ing, wake boarding and sailing Alpine Meadows & Culture Bad ischl is a town full of history with splendid 19th century villas and the Kaiser Villa, the Kaiser's holiday home at which he signed the declaration which started the first world war. A short drive away is the World Heritage Site of Hallstatt a truly beautiful village perched on the shores of Hallstattersee and overlooked by the magnificent Dachstein mountains. Hallstatt is also boasts an underground salt mine which dates back thousands of years. An hours drive or around one and half hours on the bus is Salzburg the birth place of Mozart. Overlooked by its white painted fortress high on the HohenSalzburg the streets of the Alt Stadt are evocative of a time gone by. Take a carriage ride around the Old Town and see the Cathederal, St Peter's Church and church yard where some of Mozart's family are buried or wander lazily through the narrow passages browsing in the shops and listen to the street musicians or just sit and enjoy coffee and cakes at one of the outdoor cafes. Alpine Meadows & Contemporary History A 90 minute drive just over the border in Germany is Hitler's holiday home the 'Eagles Nest' now a restaurant. Built on the Kehlstein at 1834 mtrs it has fabulous views over the Obersalzburg and for this alone it is worth a visit. However the Documentation centre (museum) some 800 mtrs below has a number of interesting and thought provoking exhibitions and should not be missed. There are other sites, not far from Bad Ischl, with links to the 1930's and 40's which may interest students of contemporary history.
