Hacienda Petac is a privately owned, five bedroom estate located on the Yucatan Peninsula. Built in the 17th Century on the remains of a Mayan site, it has been magnificently restored and is available for exclusive rental by private parties. This comfortable estate offers an extraordinary combination of luxury, service and total privacy - all within easy reach of the colonial center of Merida. An attentive staff, exotic natural surroundings and exquisite details make Hacienda Petac the perfect setting for a unique and memorable escape. There are five bedrooms at the Hacienda, each with its own bathroom, equipped with hairdryer, shower amenities and robes. All rooms have both air conditioning and ceiling fans. Each room is extremely private, spacious and distinctively designed with custom furnishings. The Hacienda has a total of seven beds: two king, three queen and two double. Hacienda Petac can easily accommodate 10 persons, but will accept families of up to 12. Hacienda Petac offers tranquil luxury, total privacy and the freedom to do as you wish. There are no alarm clocks at Petac and no television - plenty of diversions, few distractions. The Hacienda enjoys abundant natural life due to its location on the border of the Cuxtal Ecological Reserve. A complimentary, guided bird-watching walk is offered so guests can appreciate the many exotic birds found in the area. A walking trail provides a comfortable path through the Hacienda and leads to several points of interest. Bicycles, croquet and lawn bowling are also available. Situated near multiple Mayan archeological zones, the Hacienda features its own, as yet unexcavated, ruins. An expert on Mayan anthropology will join guests one morning to share his knowledge of the area and provide an introduction to surrounding sites. A Yucatecan cooking demonstration is given on any day of the guests' preference, and guests are welcome in the kitchen at any time to learn more. The music of the Yucatan is called trova and usually consists of a trio of guitarists who sing in a beautiful and simple harmony. The Hacienda provides one evening of trova to acquaint our guests with this purely Yucatecan sound. Massage and beauty treatments can be provided on site. The kitchen is the heartbeat of the hacienda, turning simple meals into a celebration of the flavors and colors of the Yucatan. Meals at Hacienda Petac are a key element of the Petac experience. The traditional food of Yucatan is very distinctive from other parts of Mexico. It is a fusion of Mayan, Spanish and Cuban influences. Corn, beans and pork are essential components of the Yucatecan diet. Native to Yucatan is the habanero chile, considered to be the hottest chile in the world. Rest assured that all salsas and chiles are served on the side to be added to taste. Guests are asked for their general food preferences upon reservation and the Hacienda menu is prepared accordingly. Blanca, the Hacienda's primary cook, and her helpers prepare delicious Yucatecan food. It is authentic and prepared home-style, fresh every day. She can also prepare simple international dishes; however, her local food is so tasty that few stray far from her menus. Although it is typical for groups to gravitate towards the intimate and familiar dining room, the staff often chooses new spots around the hacienda to set the table. While at Petac, meals and snacks are served according to the rhythm of your day: where ever or whenever you choose. Picnics can be requested for excursions.
